As we bid “farewell to summer” and
“welcome the fall season” it’s a time to reflect on accomplishments of the year
past and get ready for the upcoming festive Holiday Season.
We wish you and your entire family all
the best throughout the holidays and include our sincerest best wishes for a
happy and healthy New Year as well.
As we embark upon our 14th Annual
Production of Nutcracker it’s a very exciting time. This year’s cast is our
biggest yet and promises to be another stellar offering to the community.
Carol and I appreciate all the hard work
and talent of the cast members, but I’d also like to take a moment to offer our
“Thanks” to the family members and our dedicated volunteers who make each Dance
Kids production so special. Without you and your undying support, we wouldn’t be
able to create the exciting atmosphere that envelopes each of the performers who
step onto the stage.
Nutcracker is special, and so is each and
every one of you whom we’re proud to include in our Dance Kids Family!
I look forward to seeing all of you at
the Morgan Stock Stage at Monterey Peninsula College, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, December 8th-9th and 10th!
And now……
“On with the Show, as we proudly present,
Nutcracker”
Warmest regards,
Alan

Artistic Director’s Report - November 2006 |

Nutcracker
madness is with us! I never tire of the incredible score, the frenzy of costumes
and the rehearsal process that we all know so well. We seem to be well ahead of
the curve in many respects. Thanks to an incredible group of volunteers and
staff, Nutcracker 2006 promises to be better than ever.
Each year the artistic staff grows and change roles, costumes and the design of
the production. We have young people that have been in the production for over
10 years and we strive for a fresh approach to a classic. Not only for the
dancer that has been a part of the production for years but for the public that
faithfully follows our tradition.
These changes as well as the growth of our program costs money. Alan and I write
grants throughout the year as well as contacting countless individuals during
the year for private donations. As we face a mounting and daunting season
financially, we do want to acknowledge the individuals and businesses that have
helped so much over this last year. Please take a moment to note in the
Nutcracker program our donors. If you have a chance, thank them for their
generosity with a call or a note! There are many “behind the scene” people that
donate costumes, leotards as well as the families with older dancers performing
“specialty” dances that travel to Los Angeles for private instruction a couple
of times a year and pay all the fees associated with those parts. Part of the
success of the Dance Kids program is the ability to move our dancers into parts
that were once reserved for the professional hired dancer. This incentive gives
our student a long range goal and a special person to look up to. We remind our
dancers, at every age; someone considers them a hero and wants to be “them” when
they grow up!
Please let me know if you can help beyond what has already been done! Phone
calls and personal visits have become a part of the job for me and we
continually look for the individual or corporation that recognizes the
incredible work done by this merry band of folks.
Thanks for being part of a team that honors children in the theatre!
Love, Carol
