Here’s hoping that all of
you had a fabulous summer! I know that many of our dancers traveled far and wide
to take a variety of classes and have now returned home to school and loads of
homework! Good luck with your studies as we enter fall.
After spending time at our home in France this summer, Carol and I returned back
home to Carmel just in time for “Nutcracker Auditions” in August. This
years “Nutcracker” promises to be filled with new energy, excitement and an
expanded performance schedule, from our usual one weekend- three performance
set, to two- consecutive weeks and a total of EIGHT performances!
We also look
forward to moving to our new home at the Morgan Stock Theatre at Monterey
Peninsula College. Special “Thanks” to Peter DeBono and his fine staff for
working with Dance Kids leadership to make this a reality. We are all excited!
Our cast this year is over 100 and promises to be bigger and better than ever
with some new twists and additional activities; a Holiday Home Tour and Sugar
Plum Fairy Party added to the mix. Check our website for further details….
Speaking of the website, we are working with Byte-Technology on a new, improved
and easier to use site. Construction is now under way but updates are being made
weekly to assure accuracy with rehearsal schedules and provide you and your
families with the most up to date information possible. Remember, you can also
get ticket information at www.dancekids.org.
Ticketing for
Nutcracker this season will be through the Box Office at Monterey Peninsula
College and www.ticketguys.com Please get you tickets early for the Holiday Home
Tour, Gala, Sugar Plum Fairy Party and of course, all eight performances of
“Nutcracker.”
Remember that we are still in need of parent volunteers for this production.
Check with our Parent Volunteer Chair, Stacey Diaz to see where you can assist.
Without the help from our wonderful parents, these productions would not be
possible…we appreciate each and every one of you!
2006 holds a spring musical, “The Boyfriend” and another full-length spring
ballet in May, “Sleeping Beauty” at the Golden Bough Theatre in Carmel. Carol
will have additional details in her Artistic Directors Report which follows.
Again, thanks to our wonderful Dance Kids families for your undying and loyal
support of our program for kids on the Monterey Peninsula. We look forward to
seeing you at our next production of “Nutcracker” and wish you all the best as
we head into fall. See you at the Morgan Stock Theater!
Warmest regards,
Alan
August always begins the
Nutcracker process, and 2005 was not an exception! Our auditions were very well
attended and our final cast is over 100. Choreographers Tia Brown, Gloria Elber,
Rachel Allaire, Phoebe de Silva and Reed Scott are very busy with all of our
weekends from now until Thanksgiving filled with rehearsals. This is the first
year that we have seen a 10 day window at Thanksgiving to allow everyone a well
deserved rest before we begin production. The staff was in agreement for the
mini vacation due to the new two week production schedule and our move to the
Morgan Stock Theatre at Monterey Peninsula College. We know that everyone will
enjoy a break with family and friends during that holiday and come back
refreshed and ready for our Holiday spectacular.
Dance Kids has
engaged the talent of Robin McKee, director, for our spring theatrical
production of “The Boyfriend.” This play set in the 20’s is a charming and
innocent look at love at all ages. I love the charming and innocent part! There
are lots of parts for young men and boys! There is a tremendous amount of tap
dancing as well as all types of dance. This play is known as a ‘dance show.’
Just perfect for a Dance Kids production!
In May at the Golden Bough theatre, Dance Kids will produce the full length
ballet “Sleeping Beauty.” We are very excited to have
Tia Brown at the helm for this production. Alan and I will see the Kirov version
this weekend at Zellerbach Hall at UC Berkeley. I hear there are some other
ballerinas traveling to the very same show to see how the production looks! We
will see you there!
With huge thanks to Bernadette Rede and Sue Cricelli for all of their help in
the Dance Kids office this fall. They have been instrumental in keeping the
office flowing smoothly. Thanks to Stacey Diaz for chairing the parent
volunteers for Nutcracker again this year. Without all of our volunteers, we
would not exist! With lots of love to all, Carol.
